MADISON –According to reports, gubernatorial candidate Tom Barrett supports controversial bills legislative Democrats are attempting to ram through with little public input. Barrett, who stands to benefit from sweeping election law changes that would make voter fraud easier, should be denouncing both the bills and the shady legislative process Democrats are using to ram them through, according to Reince Priebus, Chairman of the Republican Party of Wisconsin.
“For someone who wants to be the next executive of the State of Wisconsin to support this shady and convoluted legislation is absolutely reprehensible. This is not the way business should be conducted in our state,” Priebus said. “Tom Barrett is obviously not interested in preventing voter fraud or an open and transparent legislative process.”
Priebus said bills moving quickly through the legislature could lead to more voter fraud, erroneous registrations, and government contracts with groups like ACORN, yet conspicuously omit important safeguards like Voter ID.
“Tom Barrett wants to help shady groups like ACORN and then make it harder for legitimate election observers to see what’s going on at the polls,” Priebus said. “Preserving the integrity of Wisconsin elections is something we should expect from our next Governor—not cheap political stunts that could increase voter fraud disguised as voter protection.”
