Repeal then Repair - Our new ad
Dear Friend of CatholicVote,
Our new radio ads are on the air! Our ad states, CatholicVote supports "repeal and repair."
Bolstered by the vote in the House of Representatives this week, we are pushing for a vote in the Senate to repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Plain and simple, voters deserve to know where their Senators stand.
We also are supporting new legislation introduced yesterday by Republican Chris Smith (N.J.) and Democrat Dan Lipinski (Ill.). The No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act would prohibit taxpayer funds from being used for abortion across all government programs. A second bill titled the Protect Life Act was also introduced to prohibit taxpayer support for abortion in Obamacare, should efforts to repeal the entire law fail or stall.
Let's be clear though: we believe the new healthcare law is flawed at its core. Taxpayer funding for abortion is only the beginning. The bill fails to protect the conscience rights of doctors and health care professionals, imposes new mandates and taxes, and most importantly, cedes control over our healthcare to the federal government.
Simply put, this new healthcare law, even without abortion funding, will do more harm than good.
The Catholic Medical Association said this week that Obamacare is "not capable of delivering true reform of America's health care financing and delivery systems. It must undergo substantial change so authentic reform measures can be enacted and implemented." The CMA is the largest association of Catholic doctors in the United States (and not to be confused with Sr. Carol Keehan's Catholic Health Association.) Referring to the vote in the House on Wednesday, the CMA said: "If today's vote is a part of a constructive process of change and improvement, it is worthy of support."
We agree wholeheartedly. That's why we believe repeal is a critical first step toward true health care reform.
Some of our members have written to complain that Catholics who care about the uninsured must support the law. They are right to acknowledge our obligations to the uninsured, but Obamacare is the worst fix possible. Like everyone else, we want reform, just not this way. We believe what is required is an entirely new approach that empowers consumers and not big insurance companies or big federal bureaucracies.
Our focus now is on a vote for repeal in the Senate. We want Senators on the record. And if they fail us, we will mobilize voters to act accordingly at the ballot box as we did last November.
We're finally on offense again and it feels great. But we have a lot of work ahead of us in the coming days and weeks.
We would love to buy more airtime. So if you want to help us with this campaign, you can chip in here.
Please continue to pray that our elected officials have the courage to do the right thing.
Sincerely,
Brian Burch, President

P.S. The Catholic Bishops in the United States declared last Saturday as a day of Prayer and Penance for Life _ penance for violations of the dignity of the human person through abortion, and prayer for a restoration of the right to life for all people. We encourage everyone if possible to attend Holy Mass, and to offer prayers and acts of penance on this tragic 38th anniversary of the Roe vs. Wade decision.
